The Valparaiso University Chamber Concert Band, conducted by Dr. Jeffrey Scott Doebler, is the premier concert band at Valparaiso University. Repertoire includes the finest in concert band music, with a special focus on original band compositions. The Chamber Concert Band is one of VU's touring ensembles. Outreach performances have included schools, churches and community events throughout the USA and Canada. Recent honors have included performances--with the VU Chorale and Symphony Orchestra--in historic Severance Hall, Cleveland, and Orchestra Hall at Symphony Center, Chicago. The CCB performed a feature concert for the 1999 Music Educators National Conference North Central Division Convention in the ballroom of the Cincinnati Convention Center (Dr. Ayers and Dr. Doebler met for the first time at the conclusion of this program), and was selected as the host ensemble for the 1997 national wind ensemble conducting workshop of the Conductors Guild. The CCB’s debut CD, and they gathered on Mount Carmel, contains the first professional recording of this major new work by Jesse Ayers and has received rave reviews from leaders in the concert band profession throughout the country. The second and third CDs, One Nation and Yankee Doodling, were released in 2002. The Chamber Concert Band recording project seeks to create and disseminate artistic recordings of the finest in concert band literature. When possible, major works are recorded under the supervision of the composer so that the interpretation accurately reflects the composer’s intentions.
