...and they gathered on Mount Carmel
a surround-sound work for wind symphony, large orchestra or standard orchestra
" Although it is a very exciting work in its entirety, each movement can be played separately. I have conducted this work on several occasions and it always blows the audience away." —Dr. Jeffrey Scott Doebler, Valparaiso University
... and they gathered on Mount Carmel (1995, revised 2004) 25 minutes
A surround-sound composition in three movements for wind symphony (band), large orchestra, or standard orchestra.
Its title refers to the great confrontation between the Old Testament prophet Elijah and the false prophets of Baal recorded in
I Kings 18. The brass are split into two antiphonal choirs on either side of the audience. Other performers are behind the audience. The middle movement features an extended solo for euphonium or horn with echoes coming from behind the audeince.
